Sleeping "on the road" in the RV

Well, we have lots of choices when traveling in this house on wheels.  We can search as we travel (Pat usually does this on the iPad) and find a campground or park.  Or we can find a Walmart and park there for the night, or we can just pull in to a Flying J or Tiger truck stop and park and sleep.   Since we are fully self contained, it's easy to stop and be comfortable at a truck stop.  If it's hot we click on the generator and the air conditioner runs...and it really cools the bus down.  We have our shower, our bathroom - it's truly luxury!

After many round the country road trips, it's been interesting to "mingle" at truck stops with folks.  One of the first stops for gas, we pulled thru in the truck lane and Don got out to gas up.  I looked out the side window and this is what I saw:

Lady semi-truck driver!

I glanced out the window and she looked back at me - I gave her the thumbs up sign - as I was impressed with a lady driver!  She rolled her window down and had a deep southern accent, asked where we were from and where we were headed.  She said she and her husband like to travel.  They live in Florida, and they figured this would be a way to see the country - drive for a living.  Honestly, she was behind the wheel of one of the biggest semi's on the road!

Once inside Flying J you can hear announcements for shower calls.  Drivers can stop, shower, sleep in their cabs and take off the next day.  These places are busy - MORE than busy!  It's a whole lifestyle.  These folks can park, back up these rigs and place them in the tightest spots, too, in the lots.  Amazing!

Flying J, stopping for the night!

After spending a few nights like this in these truck stops, we decided we REALLY prefer camp sites! We can hook up to electricity and water and not use our reserves and we can expand the sides to the RV giving us more room to walk around, eat dinner, relax.   Already we're spoiled on the road!  Many of the options for stopping at night are state parks or private campgrounds or RV resorts...and there are lots of nice folks.  The key is to search in the morning and try to figure out how far we'll drive during the day - and calling ahead to make a reservation.  We have a long bus and it's easiest to find a "pull thru" so we can drive in with the car attached - and then circle around and drive right out in the morning.
